My name is Edwin Knuth. I live in Portland, Oregon. I’m interested in open source software, open data, open gov, GIS, spatial databases (geodatabases), web mapping applications and location based services. I love javascript, python and postgresql. Lately I’ve been making fast lightweight web applications.
I have also recently started a postgis hosting service called ganeshDB.
While I’m not actually related to Donald Knuth, I’ve always been a fan.

Hey Chris!
You don’t sound like a robot! :)
I’d have to say bucardo is probably the sturdier choice. Although if you don’t need multimaster, I’d look into the new replication built into postgres 9.
Hope that helps. Good luck with your endeavors. Always happy to help in the name of science!
Heya Edwin,
It’s always the debate, do I lay down I work for Earthquakes Canada or do I try to relate as a human being first. I went with “I’m not just some dude in a basement, this is kinda important-esque”.
We are shifting over from Ingres to Postgres and I’m in the same boat regarding replication. You did your research, you gave it a fair shake so Edwin… what’s your final verdict? Bucardo or RubyRep?
Thanks,
Chris
